“The New Jersey legislature passed a bipartisan bill on Thursday that requires the state’s Department of Environmental Protection to put climate regulations in place to bring emissions down 80 percent below 2006 levels by midcentury. The bill, which strengthens a partially implemented proposal from 2007 called the Global Warming Response Act, is now headed for Democratic Governor Phil Murphy’s desk.”

The state’s clean economy also enjoys one of the highest employment rates of veterans, accounting for 13.3 % of all clean energy workers. While 40,000 clean jobs are located in the New York metro area (which ranks second in the U.S.), all 21 counties in the state employ workers in clean energy with 15 counties home to more than 1,000. ”

Sustainable Jersey Announces $200,000 in Grants to be Awarded to 36 Municipalities Including The City of Elizabeth

New Jersey Officials Call for Additional Funding for State Energy Efficiency Efforts

“The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, authorized in the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act, was created to provide state, local, and tribal governments with funding to undertake projects to reduce energy use, diversify energy supplies, and improve air quality and the environment.
However, the program has not received any additional appropriated funds since 2009. U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) is looking to change that. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, which Pallone serves on, held a hearing on a bill (H.R. 2088), which would reauthorize the program to provide $3.5 billion annually from 2021 to 2025.”
