Energy Auditor Internship (Paid)  – Wayne, NJ – $18/an hour + Performance-Based Commission

Donnelly Energy helps small businesses throughout New Jersey become more energy efficient in the lighting, HVAC, and commercial refrigeration categories as a participating contractor for the Direct Install program run by all of the public energy utilities in New Jersey. (PSE&G, JCP&L, NJNG, and more)

Donnelly Energy is looking to hire a Sales Energy Auditing Intern to help support the team this summer.

This would be a part-time or full-time paid Internship based throughout New Jersey, with frequent travel for prospecting in our program county territories: Morris, Passaic, Burlington, Hunterdon, Monmouth, and Middlesex Counties. Having a reliable vehicle is a requirement.

Position Overview

We are looking for hungry, dynamic individuals who will be dedicated to educating and evaluating new customers for our work within the various Direct Install Programs across the Garden State. This internship entails driving to businesses, educating customers on the program overview, and conducting onsite and non-invasive energy audits/assessments of the building(s).

The intern will be recording all lighting, HVAC, and boilers on energy audits. The position requires walking buildings as large as 200,000 square feet, climbing ladders to enter accessible roofing areas (with safely measured precautions) and entering basement/attic type areas.

Qualified candidates are eager to go learn about energy efficiency and clean energy initiatives, enjoy speaking to a variety of new people on a daily basis, and are comfortable navigating buildings to conduct the audits (rooftops, basements, and smaller areas in some instances.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Candidate(s) must be current or graduating undergraduate students in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or College. Preferably with Sales, Business or Environmental Focus.
  • Driving to businesses each day to conduct prospecting and energy audits with distant supervision.
  • Report to the team associate scheduling daily audits with building reports, questions, and full details of site visits.
  • Daily prospecting and educating of businesses within their assigned territory, with the end goal being to schedule high amounts of potential customers for free program assessments.

 Requirements:

  • Must have a reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. (Positive attitude is a plus!)
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Talent and Skills:

  • Highly self-motivated and ambitious.
  • Above-average communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High energy and action-oriented, with a pro-active approach to program solving.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Interest in environmentalism, sustainability, and clean energy is a bonus.

More about the Position

  • This is a paid, hourly internship ($18/hour), with an additional commission incentive of $18 per self-generated energy audit/lead (with no incentive cap, so the sky’s the limit).
  • Initial training will be in-person in our Wayne, NJ office.
  • A gas card will be provided to cover expenses, as well as a monthly car and phone stipend.
  • Hours of availability must be between Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EST.
